Homework and Resources
At Ernest Bevin Academy, we believe that homework is an essential part of the learning process. It helps students to consolidate their classroom learning, develop independent study skills, and prepare for future lessons and assessments.
Homework Policy
Our homework policy is designed to ensure that students receive regular, meaningful assignments that enhance their learning while maintaining a healthy balance with other activities. The amount and frequency of homework increases as students progress through the school.
Homework Expectations by Year Group
Year Group | Guidance |
---|---|
Year 7 (Purple Ties) | Approximately 20-30 minutes per subject. Students should expect homework in 2-3 subjects each day. |
Year 8 (Yellow Ties) | Approximately 30-40 minutes per subject. Students should expect homework in 2-3 subjects each day. |
Year 9 (Blue Ties) | Approximately 40-50 minutes per subject. Students should expect homework in 2-3 subjects each day. |
Year 10 (Red Ties) | Approximately 45-60 minutes per subject. GCSE subjects will set regular homework to support coursework and exam preparation. |
Year 11 (Green Ties) | Approximately 60-90 minutes per subject. Homework will focus on exam preparation, practice papers, and consolidation of learning. |
Homework Platform
We use Google Classroom as our primary platform for setting and submitting homework. Each student has their own login details and can access their classes, assignments, and resources through this platform.
Parents can receive guardian summaries from Google Classroom, which provide regular updates on their child's homework assignments and due dates. Please contact your child's form tutor if you would like to receive these email summaries.

- Logging in at classroom.google.com with their school email account
- The Google Classroom app available for smartphones and tablets
- The school computers and Chromebooks

- Hegarty Maths - Interactive mathematics resources
- Seneca Learning - Subject-specific revision materials
- MyMaths - Online mathematics homework and activities
- Accelerated Reader - Reading progress tracking
- Kerboodle - Digital textbooks and resources for various subjects
Library Resources
Our school library offers a range of resources to support homework and independent study:
- Wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books
- Reference materials for all curriculum subjects
- Computer access for research and assignment completion
- Study spaces for quiet work
- Printing and photocopying facilities
The library is open from 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
Homework Support
We offer a range of support to help students with their homework:
- Homework Club - Runs Monday to Thursday from 3:15pm to 4:15pm in the library. Staff are available to provide guidance and support.
- Subject-specific Support Sessions - Many departments offer lunchtime or after-school support sessions where students can get help with specific subjects.
- Online Resources - Our school website provides links to curriculum resources and study guides.
Parental Support
Parents play a crucial role in supporting their child's learning at home. Here are some ways you can help:
